Jesus entered the scene to turn all this around. Not to do away with the law, but to show people how to handle it - correctly handle it. One day He was at the Pool of Bethseda and a man who was lame asked Jesus for healing, for help to enter into the waters believed to heal. So Jesus called the man to leave his mat behind, get up and walk and Jesus healed him
(Jn. 5:1-13). There was such an uproar in that city that Jesus healed on the Sabbath, broke the law, and healed. That the religious leaders of the day had no common sense to look at the priority of God's healing over legalism, was a stench and opposed to the very Heart of God. To God, it was far more important to heal the man than to follow any mandate preventing the man from receiving what was his and on that day. It did not matter to God that it was the Sabbath. What He cared about was the healing of a lame man for 31 years, and this man made whole.
After the man was healed a great commotion broke out about this man healed on the Sabbath, and so we see that religion, the legalism of that which forbids common sense and "pleasing God," an enemy of His Heart.
When the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of Jesus's Garment (Matt. 9:20) several things of importance happened with this scene. Number one, it was against the law for a woman with an issue of bleeding to even be seen in public. Secondly, Jesus came to his own, the Jewish people, and this woman was a gentile. Only upon His Resurrection from dead was ministry to the gentile nation in full motion. Thirdly, it was against The Law of Moses - The Levitical Law, for someone with an issue of blood to "touch" another, and whoever they touched had the right to stone them. It was an even greater violation of law for a woman with these issues to touch a priest and so we read: "She touched the hem of Jesus's Garment."
What we have in this picture is an amazing message of God's Grace. It is God's desire to heal, and when He healed the woman who merely touching His Prayer Shawl - to be specific, she was activating the message of His Grace to the highest degree. She was a Gentile woman, yet, Jesus came to heal, save, and redeem all who would receive Him, and clearly this woman's faith allowed her to receive her healing.
I can't say that rules were being broken although the authorities of the day would have said so. But clearly, the spirit of the law was reinforced. We see with great clarity what is important to God when understanding these two events of Jesus's healing ministry, and His demonstration of priorities. We see what God considers important.
We see that religion is the enemy of God's Heart.
