With a little study we see that the law of "sin and death" is also heard in the following:
"Sin seizing the opportunity afforded by the law, produced in me every sort of coveting desire. For apart from the law sin is dead (Rom. 7:8)."
On a different note:
"The righteous shall live by faith (Rom. 1:17b)."
Until we "get rid of the slave woman and her son" (the law), we will never hear from God. God could not speak to Abraham while holding onto Hagar (the law of sin and death).
"Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman and her [offspring] will not share in the inheritance of the free woman and her [offspring] (Gal. 4:30)."
Hear these strong words of an apostle who labored and travailed in intercession "...until Christ be formed in [the church] (Gal. 4:19)." Hear these strong words! Hear the passion of his heart that believers would understand who they are as blood-bought and as God's inheritance. He labored and travailed that the church would understand who it is that has taken up residence in them, and, who it is that will lead and guide them into all Truth. Hear the following strong words again:
"Cursed is anyone who relies on observing the law.." sums up the vivid picture we are given in Galatians Chapter 3. Until the church got rid of (or gets rid of) the slave woman and her son (this son is "a child" as seen with the Greek translation - not yet mature with a "fullness." This son is under guardians, mentors, and advisers) would never share the blessings of the free woman and her son. (This word "son" is translated from the Greek meaning maturity or fullness). The free woman's son is ready and able to drive the Lamberdini, so-to-speak, whereas the offspring of Hagar (who represents the curse of the law and the F-O-R-D found on the road dead) is an heir as well but in bondage as a slave and unable to take the wheel that manages the possessions of God - responsibly. Yet, this son is still an heir looking for a fullness that "puts-off" and "puts-on" the new life in Christ as a mature son of God. For the mere receiving of Christ's redeeming power of grace, maturity thrives with an increase of power.
There are two laws as there are highways in the spirit realm, and
there are tedious "self-righteous" traveled-by-human-efforts roads, that will never find Christ for such futile efforts. Just as Abraham would never hear from God while occupied with Hagar, so it is with the self-righteous-works-activist. These will never hear God - NEVER marry with the spirit. The spirit and self-righteous efforts will never marry.
Further: "...the law is good if one uses it properly" (1Tim. 1:8)
"Who has bewitched you?!" the apostle exposed with these harsh and revealing convictions. These have placed you under a curse, he said in other words.
Cursed! Cursed! and Cursed! are those who rely on the law to magnify Christ because those seeking to be justified by the law rarely seek Jesus magnified in their lives. Jesus is never magnified by the law, NEVER ! One may feel a sense of self-righteousness for making the mark only, but Jesus is never magnified through futile efforts as this that never changes the heart - never produces new wine skins prepared for the wine of the spirit.
Never will the law and the spirit marry - NEVER!
They will forever be at odds with one another, forever. "The flesh wars against the spirit and the spirit against the flesh" the apostle lamented with wise counsel.
Won't you come on up and "receive" your sonship (come up to maturity in Christ with ever increasing measure) in Jesus. Become that heir with Christ for His blood sacrifice that covers you and became that curse on the cross for you and me? Come on up ! Lets live by the Spirit of the law. It's really much simpler than attempting to please God in the flesh, which will never happen.
"The Law of The Spirit and Life set me FREE from The Law of Sin and Death (Rom. 8:2)."
